The Press-Enterprise takes online classifieds to new level

AdPay’s innovative approach brings a consolidated search experience to online visitors.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The Press-Enterprise Company launched a paradigm shifting model for local classifieds today unveiling its redesigned classified portal at PE.com, becoming the first newspaper in the country to provide an aggregation of local classifieds from myriad competitors such as Craigslist. The new searchable marketplace is uniquely positioned to keep users on its Web site longer while fully meeting their classified needs.

The PE.com classified marketplace features a single entry point for intuitive keyword searching and a geographic search extension for all classified categories in the Inland Southern California area. Results from PE.com are displayed first while other available listings from sites selected by the PE team are displayed in a second tab. All is framed under the trusted local brand. The AdPay Local Aggregation experience keeps users engaged on the site while allowing The Press-Enterprise to monetize non-PE generated ad content page views.

The process also creates more targeted advertising positions for local businesses. Contextual ad placements, vertical marketplace sponsorships and related link sales by categories are a few of the numerous revenue-drivers wrapped around the classified content. This also changes the model from ad placement revenues to ad viewing revenues. There is no copyright infringement as the technology focuses on searching, not scraping, content.

Providing consolidated online classified searches for its customers, the PE.com classified marketplace features:
  • A single, user friendly keyword search and geographic search for all classified categories
  • Results for The Press-Enterprise display with an attention-grabbing “featured” listing
  • Results from Craigslist, Oodle and other available listings framed within the site pages
  • Consolidation with AdPay search, including:
    • Social networking “share this” function
    • Ability to upload videos for customer ads
    • Ability to set alerts, watch ads and maintain a clip list
“This innovative solution gives consumers what they have been looking for - the most comprehensive classifieds in the Inland Empire,” said Ginger Neal. “And customers placing ads with The Press Enterprise and PE.com are going to be viewed by the largest local audience. The content search and delivery methodology ensures proper credit is given in the presentation of the ad so copyright protection for the advertiser is honored. Sites like Craigslist no longer have to be a threat to newspapers – they are a partner.”

“Local aggregation, and vendor consolidation, is the next step for media classifieds. Local users can find exactly what they’re looking for in a one-stop shopping experience that keeps them coming back,” according to Mike Heene, President and CEO of AdPay, Inc. “We are excited to expand upon our partnership with The Press-Enterprise through this exciting project. Their eagerness to achieve this next level of classified enhancement demonstrates their commitment to serving the local market for at least the next 100 years.”
